Portland Day 3

Day three of our Portland vacation was dedicated to nature. We started the day off with brunch at the farmers market on PSU campus while grabbing a few snacks of berries and fresh bread for the day ahead of us. Then we headed about 40 miles out of the city center to Mt. Hood National Forest, where we went on two hikes. The first hike we did was Angel's Rest. Once you reach Angel's Rest there is a beautiful view of the Gorge. The hike itself is only about 2.5 out and back, but it is a moderately difficult hike, not for the out of shape. In the 2.5 miles there is an 1880 ft gain. So you can see this is pretty steep. On the way up you get a great view of the Horsetail falls as well. The next hike we did was Eagles Creek to High Bridge. This hike was a bit longer, but not as steep. In 3.3 miles there is a 840 ft gain. A much easier hike, but with very steep drop offs and some very narrow passages. If you are afraid of heights it can get pretty scary. The hike takes you through a very lush green forest with moss covering trees and rocks. You pass a few creeks and waterfalls as well. We stopped at High Bridge which is a bridge that sits 120 ft high over a creek. After all of this hiking we were so ready for a big steak dinner, and that is exactly what we got at Multnoma Lodge, located just outside of Multnoma Falls.

Portland Day 2

Day two started with some amazing biscuits and gravy from Pine State Biscuits and a lovely walk through Lurelhurst Park. Unfortunately the pond at the park was drained for maintenance so we didn't get to see the park's signature feature, but it was still very beautiful. Then we headed into the city center to enjoy some fine Rogue beers and see the distillery. We tasted the two whiskeys they make, and honestly, I think I will just stick to their beer. I had a Brutal IPA, XS Imperial IPA or XS I2PA, and the Double Mocha Porter, all delicious. After filling up on nothing but beer it was time for food. We made our way to Blue Plate, which I was really looking forward to, but once we got there they were 86 half of the menu (all of the good stuff of course). We moved on in search of another place to eat, and found nothing. I mean we found places, but nothing that peaked our interests. So instead, we dropped into a super cute Asian market/toy store/ overpriced random stuff place. It was finally time to get back to the hotel and clean up for the wedding. The wedding itself was a beautiful rooftop event with an amazing view to go along with it. We drank, ate and danced until the lights came on and then followed the bride and groom to a bar called Oba (would not recommend). And at long last, it was bed time.

Portland Day 1

Our trip to Portland has been great so far, despite the horrible flight situation. Due to our late arrival, we had to rearrange our plans a little. So far it has been a lot of fun none the less. First we got dinner at Por Que No Taqueria where the carnitas tacos are excellent. Then we walked down the street in this beautiful North Portland neighborhood to grab a few delicious beers at Amnesia Brewing. Then back to the hotel to grab our coats because the weather is so wonderful and chilly. We caught the light rail to cross the river and enter the city to have a few beers at Tug Boat brewing and then of course some late night doughnuts at Voodoo on our walk home. All in all a beautiful first day in Portland. Can't wait till tomorrow!
